There were lakes, Marshes, Jungles, and even metropolitans, and in some locations there was also thick and elder Jungles with substantial variety of species. People think only Amazon rain forest had remained and they assume other ones are destroyed due to human activity in last few century. This is false. During and after world war 2 earth still had substantial amount of rain forests and thick jungles in Iran, India, Iraq, Syria, and even central Asia, and Siberia. Syria had elephants some 100 years ago. Iran had elephants and cows similar to those in India. Iran even had lion and other wild Animals in its ecosystem but America used weather warfare against these regions of the earth to dry them. America have killed a Biosphere. America has even taken artifacts, carpets, and historic records showing green environment and lakes on them. They were banned and then removed from Middle Eastern records. If you read Quran it does not talk about deserts and only mentions it once but it repeatedly speaks about beautiful gardens and rivers. Something left for us to remember how it was not long ago.

Tabriz to Tehran High Way is also built on top of a river bed and one day rains shall return and these will be needing fixture so the water does not flow through the city.
If you look at Map of Afghanistan you see infrastructure on heights of mountain where the rivers are and these infrastructure divert path of rivers toward south thus preventing them from reaching Iranian deserts. America has also changed a path of River to Rasht Sefid rud which has dried Qom Salt Lake. There are then houses next to path of river which rivers are now diverted from the original path.
Also if you look at map of Mountains around Urumieh Iranian Azerbaijan you see the path of sweat rivers have changed to mix with salty rivers all leading to Urumieh Lake. Now this was old and even Urmiah lake is being dried now.
Then there is lake of Shiraz, Batalgh Gav Khuni Isfaahan, Lake of Hamun, and other marshes inside Iranian plateau which have been drying even since two decades ago and are getting progressively worst.
